DIVIDED LANDS Round w/Frame Legs
When I designed the DIVIDED LANDS table in 2004, I had no idea that it would become one of the defining pieces of my collection and of my career. It’s popularity spans across multiple continents with commissions by Louis Vuitton, celebrated designers and private collectors in cities such as Vienna, Paris, Riyadh, Hong Kong and New York.
The fabrication of this piece is a form of art and technically very difficult- the signature patinas of Roeper are created with a proprietary technique using acids to etch multiple layers and colors into the zinc. This application is unique and cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world, making these tables very rare and collectible. The surface is sealed with a very durable clear lacquer which protects the patinas from spills and daily use.
In conversations with my clients who have purchased this piece over the years, I’ve noticed a recurring reaction of them being deeply touched in an inexplicable way and I often hear them say: “I have been looking for the right table for a very long time and as soon as I saw this, I knew it was the one!”
I believe that all people who are drawn to this piece in a special kind of way share this in common: an appreciation for patina, texture and geometric shapes, and on a deeper level, an understanding of the powerful concepts of “home” and “place” which shape our past, present and future into a world of divided lands.
